Backstory: The origin of fruit and flowers

A restless tangle of possibility lay beneath the surface. Life experimented. 

It was endlessly curling, branching, splitting, and weaving. It invented new forms. In that crowded beginning, roots slowly emerged. Form and energy together made fertile ground. Everything left traces of evidence and influence. Everything evolved through patient repetition and random impluse. From this dense web of life, color, scent, and sweetness took form.
